Bluebirds
This winter has been full of dark days and trials. The lingering snow and the death of two of my friends, one of which I was very close to, has caused the dark days to be darker. I was so upset when I looked out the window to see it snowing again, I was so frustrated. Then, suddenly, we noticed a flock of desert bluebirds flying around. A couple landed on the wall just outside the window, and another in a squaw bush behind the wall.
The beauty of the blue birds against the white snow brought joy to my heart with the sign of Spring. The hope of a long awaited Spring is finally upon us.

A Warm February Day
Jessie and her boys came out to Needles today to enjoy the 53 degree weather. We went hiking and, well, some took a nap.
I always love this spot. Enter through the archway and you will find all kinds of neat things. This is the last of some of the snow areas which is melting quickly. Hurray.
This is cave spring. The Fern is looking okay but it's very pretty and green in the summer.
Jessi checking out the berries. Do you see the creature looking down at her. The lighting is just right that there appears to be a faery or another type of fantastical creature, hanging from the cliff, looking down watching her pick the berries. To see it - it may help if you have seen the faeries created by Brian Froud. It's not your typical walt Disney sort of faery.
This was taken by the old cowboy camp.

We asked the twins to go look for Bobby, Kenny, and Lindsey, who had taken off on the cliffs, so excitedly they ran up this cliff but I had to stop them to get a picture.

So we are by the cowboy camp right... do you see the cowboy? I didn't notice it until I blogged the picture. Pretty wild eh. The cowboy (with out a hat) is the lighting on the rock wall to the left. He is sitting with his leg outstretched. He has sharp features, wearing glasses, and his cloths are striped. Maybe I just thought of a cowboy cuz we were near the cowboy camp.

It Runs in the Family
After e-mailing back and forth with Uncle Ross I realized that the music thing runs in the family. I remember when I was young Ross would come to Grandma Low's house and practice with the band he was in. I totally loved listening to him. Today I was telling him about my new instruments (which are down below) and he told me that Aunt Karma bought him a new amp and mirchrophones for Christmas, and sent me this picture. Music was always a big thing in our family and so was football, Grandma Low Loved football. Anyway, Ross was always a way cool Uncle and still is. I told him I need to go up and play with him one of these days.

St. Therese, The Little Flower
After reading one of St. Therese books, I was so impressed I bought it for Lindsey, hopefully to guide her during her young years. St. Therese is such an inspiration in my life that I wanted to share one of her thoughts with you. Something to get away from the snow. :)
Consider the Oaks of the Forest
"Consider the oaks of our countryside, how crooked they are; they thrust their branches to right and left, nothing checks them so they never reach a great height. On the other hand, consider the oaks of the forest, which are hemmed in on all sides, they see light only up above, so their trunk is free of all those shapeless branches which rob it of the sap needed to lift it aloft. It sees only heaven, so all its strength is turned in that direction, and soon it attains a prodigious height. In the religious life the soul like the young oak is hemmed in on all sides by its rule. All its movements are hampered, interfered with by the other trees... But it has light when it looks toward heaven, there alone it can rest its gaze, never upon anything below, it need not be afraid of rising too high."

Why we Love Snow
Every one I talk to in Monticello says they love the snow. So I decided to pay attention and see what it is they love about it. I decided it's because of it's beauty, and the more snow on the mountain the better. The snow is what makes Monticello so green during the summer months. the snow fills all three lakes on the mountain as well. Good fishing.
I think, that, most of all they just want to have fun...

Bring on the Snow
I took this picture this morning after Dave had dug some of it out. Consider, also, this is after he shoveled all day yesterday.

The last time I saw this much snow I was about 11 years old, living in Blanding. As of today we are actually seeing more then we did back then. Dave shoveled and shoveled all day long and this is how much we had the last time he went out last night.
This is what we had this morning after he jumped out our back door and shoveled so we could even get out our front door.
